ABOUT VAIGAI RIVER
Vaigai River originates from the Varusanadu and Megamalai hills of the Western Ghats at Moolavaigai. The river runs across Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Sivagangai districts. The river runs 257 kilometres up to the Ramanathapuram Big Reservoir and then flows into the Bay of Bengal. Suruliyaru, Varattaru, Nagalaru, Varaganathi, Upparu, Manjalaru, Sirumalaiyaru and Sathiyaru are the baby rivers of Vaigai. The Vaigai River is the main source of water for agriculture and drinking in the districts it flows through. More than 60 lakh people depend on the Vaigai River for drinking water.

To restore the Vaigai River to its former glory
The Vaigai River is currently riddled with sand, plastic debris, medical and bio-wastes due to the illegal dumping of the above into the river. "Vaigai Nathi Makkal Iyakkam" strives to restore the Vaigai River to its former glory. To achieve that goal, we require the help of the younger generation.
